There are 2 different plug sizes 5/8ths and 13/16th,if you are putting new plugs in the new plug will be the size of the old one's so that will tell you what size socket you need.(It should be 5/8th.)

It is not a hard job changing the plugs although if you do not have the right tools it can make it difficult.

You will need Torx bits, lead puller, a feeler gauge and the right size plug socket.

Don't pull all of the SPARK PLUG LEADS off at the same time or you may get them mixed up & you'll not have the engine firing properly.

Pull off 1 lead at a time & then change that plug. Then go to the next one & you should have no problem. And be carefull that you don't get the threads crossed.

Thanks guys, sorted, reason for the change is that the car wasn't starting and i thought it was the plugs, turns out it wasn't, the car still won't start :(

Its turning over as if it was gonna start but doesn't fire, had a new battery on plus the plugs but still no joy, anyone have any ideas what my next step is?? Wanna try and sort this myself before taking it to a mechanic's and shelling out loads of dosh!

Cheers again

It would help if we knew what engine you had? 2.0, 2.3, 2.8....... ?

I think you'll find the clue is in the user information, 2.3!

I had a similar problem, just would not start - turned over very fast. I changed relay No30 - no problems since & that was six months ago.

Please note it is not relay 30 as shown on the fuse panel markings but it is the relay that has a great big 30 in white on the relay case.

Hope this helps

Sorry guys these engines dont have a dissy cap and rotor

It turns over but wont start,,,Is there a spark at the plugs

check for fuel,,,there is a reset button under your pass seat try that first,,,,

there is also a relay 30 which is the main power relay,,,,these are prone to failing

I had a similair problem yesterday but took bigdaddy's advive and checked coil packs...after also having changed plugs...and it's up and running!!!! HOORAY. Maybe the advice I was given in Technical section...Cam belt? might help.

Good luck

The guys on here have been a huge help and probably saved me a fortune. :(

After trying again to get to these relays i cant, i've had the speedo etc out and when i shine a torch down and can see various relays with 40 on them but not this 30 one, cant see it from below either, this is really turning out more difficult than expected, i'm thinking it is the relay because when i try to start i'm getting a clicking noise from that direction, surely there's an easier way or is there anyone in the Somerset area that could look at it for me???

Cheers again for the advice guys

Smart reply considering when the O/P was made these details were not available till AFTER I asked the question!

That is true, i amended my vehicle type when i was asked the original question

Right guys, what do we think to this, the offending relay??:

Sorry about the crappy pics but if someone has removed this relay they could tell me if its the one, good news is the car doesn't even turn over now or try to start with this removed, what do we think guys?

Mines a 1997 2.3 Ghia X and the relays are easily accessable once you drop the cover below the steering wheel, No 30 is the one I changed. got it from a Ford dealer as it a bit of a special.
